Christmas was good! Well...actually...Dave got hit with the stomach flu on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. So, our big turkey dinner felt a bit over rated for all the work and lack of consumption. Jesse also REFUSED to nap on Christmas Day.... which is totally out of sorts for him, so he was a bit of a handful by the end of things. However, it was nice to be together without any events or plans to attend to :) Jesse was pretty cute with a few of his gifts that he opened. His favourite item, though, was probably a pack of smarties I put in his stocking. Bad move.
Dave and I rang in the New Year asleep this year! woot woot. We went to a friends for dinner, and came home to get Jesse to bed at a decent hour. Katie was downtown at a party (being totally wild - I'm sure of it ;), so Dave and I enjoyed some quiet time in with food and games.... and then 11:30 was just as far as we could make it. He He. We are so lame.
I was ready for the siblings to get back to their jobs and to officially start my mat leave by the end of our delightful holidays, though. Jesse and I have been having a great few weeks together! I was sort of worried that we might get sick of each other, or stir crazy. However, he's been quite the opposite. Very content and cuddly and fun to be with. We've been hanging out in our PJ's most mornings just snacking away, watching some TV, reading books, playing in random parts of the house, and getting many silly "nesting" chore done. Today I washed all the hallways and baseboards in our upstairs hallway?? I've been enjoying a nap when he goes down for his afternoon slumber, and then once he is up, we get outside for some fresh air, or to see friends, or run an errand before Dave gets home from work. It's been relaxing, but productive, and I'm in NO rush for baby girl to enter the mix early. I suspect she will be late...since Jesse was 10 days overdue. So.. I've got 15 days to go, in theory, and I am very excited for her to arrive. I feel like Jesse has this sense that some of my attention is, very soon, going to be vied for. He's just been wanting to be on my lap, or picked up, or squeezing my face to pieces while he hugs and kisses me.
Onto the other very important and amazing MAN in my life, Dave celebrated his 27th birthday on Sunday. 27!!! Dave and Katie both agreed with my feelings of "whoa - that seems old and weird." Dave and I are both apprehensive about the age 30. I dunno. I think I will cry. I'm getting all grown up. Dave is pumped about getting older, he says he can't wait to hit the senior stage??? But he said that he wishes he could just skip from 29-40. Is 30 really so bad??
Back on topic here. For his birthday we went out to Tuckers Marketplace. It's all all you can eat style restaurant, that Dave went to last year and has been wanting to go back to. So, the 4 of us, jumped on the 417 and made the treck downtown. After being seated, Katie and Dave had a special tour of the buffet tables with the head chef to point out the Celiac friendly dishes. They loaded up their plates while I watched Jesse, then I got my turn. When I returned to our table, Dave and Jesse were nowhere to be seen. Katie informed me that Jesse had just threw up All over Dave and himself. Ugh. He'd been fine all day, and I blamed an apple juice I had purchased for him while waiting. He doesn't normally drink juice, and had CHUGGED this thing down. So, the boys returned semi cleaned up... and Dave managed to eat and get a second plate in before Jesse let loose again. At which point, I admitted he probably was sick, and we should go. Luckily, we were in a far corner of the restaurant, and I hope not too many meals were ruined because of us :) Kids.
Well, it's 2:30 pm, and I'm STILL in my PJ's. I am going to go shower and dress while my darling boy is sleeping, and then off to the grocery store to grab a few items with the 12 dollars left in my bank account. I'm waiting for my EI claim payments to start :S C'mon government.
Thanks for reading about all the delightful excitement (a bit of sarcasm) here in the Vance Palace. Perhaps next time I post there will be a little baby girl Vance in the news :)
Always love your writing, Chrissy :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a great post! I could relate to much of it. Was poor Jesse really sick, sick or was it pretty much just the apple juice? I know if I chug apple juice I feel like puking..lol, so who knows(if it wasn't like a stomach bug that is)!
