Ground hog day

Today is groundhog day. And while looking to a furry little animal to predict the weather seems silly, I always check out the results. I'm a bit lame, yes. Ontario's most notable hog, Wiarton Willie, has predicted Spring is on it's way. With the crazy warm and rather uneventful winter we've had so far, I wouldn't be surprised if the trend continued. However, the MOST popular and perhaps reliable hog, Punxutawney Phil from Pennsylvania, has declared winter for 6 more weeks. I'm thinking that perhaps mother nature has been saving up her fury, and February and March will be miserable and cold, and full of snow.

I'm getting an itch for change, and whenever that happens, I usually pack up the baby and drive to New Brunswick and PEI to visit family. This morning the urge hit me, and I had to restrain myself from calling my boss to see if I could get the weekend off, and calling my parents and in-laws to confirm their presence this week. The urge was SO strong, that I went ahead and planned a trip in April, as a means of restraint. But I'm still feeling ancy. It's this time of year that I just DREAM about spring. I'm just craving a cool spring day that I can stroll Jesse to the park in, push him on a swing, and crash on a blanket for a snack and some sun. ahhhh....

So.. in the meantime, I'm just keeping myself busy here at home. I sewed Jesse a cute little sleeper yesterday, and today am designing my own pattern for him for some PJ's. He's got this long long torso, and while he's kind of swimming in his 12 month stuff, it's the only size that isn't busting at the crotch.

Dave has been very busy the past week as his first term at school came to a close with report cards due today. First year teaching is a crazy busy time developing courses, getting your lessons ready everyday, and then teaching. Jesse looks at me during the day, and will say "DADA" I always tell him, "Daddy is at work dealing with the crazy teenagers." Poor Dave teaches university level English and History, and so on top of the prep and drama, he has essays and more essays to mark every night. With exams last week, I did my fair share of marking multiple choice and definitions and such, and like a math wiz, tallied the marks IN MY HEAD. In junior high and high school, I would compete at these provincial math competitions. I usually placed at the district level, and guess what I won? Aside from the fame of course... Math T shirts! I have a handful of them with algebra and geometry equations all over them. So cool... I know.

I got to thinking about how much I enjoyed math, and started looking at courses online for things like book keeping. The college down the road offers part time courses in the evening and on weekends. I love to make budgets and plan things, and although following them is not my specialty, I really enjoy working with numbers on paper. Wow. I never said that outloud or wrote that down before. It's official. I'm geeky. This is what winter does to me people! It makes me go a little crazy.

Well.. my darling cold ridden, teething baby who can't sit still for 3 seconds is stirring from his morning nap, and I suppose I should sign off, and go entertain the little fellow. He's been a little off the past few days, and momma's work is cut out for her! Thanks for reading. I'm off.

I want spring to come too! And? If you want a fun trip that isn't as far away as NB/PEI, I hear London Ontario is taking visitors. :D

  3. :D Nice :) I'm sure excited to re-meet little Jesse and enjoy his presence for a bit while you and Dave have nights off :) I heard he's got some potential curl in his hair?

Book-keeping eh? Sounds like mom's sort of thing too. In a top secret part of my mind I've been wishing that I had some of my old highschool math texts and (gasp) my stats text books from ABU to read/enjoy. There. I wrote it too. I, Katie Vance, miss math also.

I'm going to go make supper now :) Love you!
